Man raped student after missing his bus home

A MAN raped a female student after missing his bus home and sharing a bed with the victim.

Mansfield Magistrates Court heard how Michael Gibson raped a female student after a night out in March 2019.

Gibson, now 26, had shared a room with the victim after missing his bus home and, the following morning, she awoke to find him committing the offence. She contacted the police five days after the incident but was reluctant to take it any further.

She was later able to provide vital forensic evidence which proved sexual contact took place, after visiting the Nottingham's Sexual Assault Referral Centre, a specialist medical clinic.
