CHELTENHAM 2026 - DAY TWO

- By CHRIS WRIGHT

Majborough has to cut out the errors

Majborough is turning into a top chaser

MAJBOROUGH can secure victory in the BetMGM Queen Mother Champion Chase (4pm) on the second day of the Festival.

Although he hasn’t always been foot perfect during his short chasing career, when he’s on song Willie Mullins’ six-year-old is almost unbeatable and can back up his impressive victory at the Dublin Racing Festival to land the Grade One feature.

A winner of the Triumph Hurdle at this meeting two years ago, he was always likely to make into a top chaser.

And two impressive wins, including in the Grade One Irish Arkle at Leopardstown in February last year, saw him head back to Cheltenham as favourite for the Arkle. But a mistake four out saw him finish second to Jango Baie.

He did, though, put that behind him at the Punchestown Festival and after another two defeats in his first two starts this season had more questions being asked. But he put them firmly to bed with an astonishing 22-length victory over last year’s Champion Chase hero Marine Nationale in the Dublin Chase at Leopardstown last month.

With no Marine Nationale in the lineup, Majborough can confirm his status as the leading two-mile chaser with another victory at Cheltenham.

Dan Skelton’s L’Eau Du Sud and stablemate Il Etait Temps are dangers, but if Majborough is on his game they will have to settle for place money.
