Macari on the mark as Notts start with win

MARTIN Paterson saw his preseason preparations as the new Notts County head coach begin with a 1-0 friendly win over Alfreton Town on Saturday.

The boss named two different lineups for each half at the Impact Arena and included three of the five close season signings - Maz Kouhyar, Tom Iorpenda and Matthew Dennis - in his travelling squad.

Barry Cotter, who arrived on a season-long loan from Barnsley the night before, and Ollie Norburn, were not involved against the National League North opposition.

But it was a familiar face who scored the only goal of the game, with defender Lewis Macari firing home a loose ball from the edge of the area in the 84th minute.
