COUNCILLORS' CALL TO VISITORS TO MAJOR EVENTS AT BOROUGH'S VENUES

- By JOSEPH CONNOLLY

'Leave your cars at home for Forest's big Euro matches'

The City Ground is expected to host a huge influx of fans for midweek Europa League games

COUNCILLORS are urging visitors to sporting venues to “leave their cars at home” for big events.

The call comes amid concerns for residents before a push to reaffirm Rushcliffe as the county's “home of sport”.

A draft sport and tourism charter was approved at a full meeting of Rushcliffe Borough Council. It intends to set out ways that businesses including Nottingham Rugby Club, Trent Bridge Cricket Ground and Nottingham Forest can collaborate with the council to maximise the potential for visitors to keep returning to the area.

Thousands of European visitors are expected to descend on the area for the first time in 29 years next week as Forest host their first home game of their 2025/2026 Europa League campaign.

Danish side FC Midtjylland will be welcomed along with their fans to the City Ground on Thursday.
