Failures by two city hospitals before Pamela, 70, died - jury

A PENSIONER died after a series of failures by two Nottingham hospitals.

Pamela Hall was 70 when she died on the Cherry Ward at Highbury Hospital on November 5, 2023. A jury inquest at Nottingham Coroner's Court before assistant coroner Simon Burge concluded on August 27 that she died of bowel ischaemia caused by dehydration, severe depression, acute kidney injury and cachexia (frailty).

The jury was told that Mrs Hall and her husband Stephen were involved in an incident in 2017 in which Mr Hall died. Mrs Hall was left with life-changing injuries and, over the next six years, suffered bouts of severe depression.

In the three months before her death, she was admitted to Aslockton Hall nursing home as she wanted to be closer to her family.

While there, Mrs Hall struggled with depression and, by the time she was discharged in October, was not eating or drinking. This caused the care home staff “to be extremely concerned for her health”.

Mrs Hall's record of inquest reads: “The staff there did the best they could within the confines of what they were qualified to do but failed to properly record her care.”
