Ex-miners set for protest at Labour Party conference

CALL FOR AN END TO PENSIONS INJUSTICE

FORMER Nottinghamshire miners will be among those protesting at the Labour Party conference calling for final pensions justice to be delivered.

All the county's Labour MPs recently united in calling on the Government to hand back billions of pounds to exminers “without delay”.

Campaigners say that six former miners die every day while waiting for pensions justice. The Government says it is working “at pace” on a review looking at whether billions should be given back to coalfield communities.

But those waiting for a pension uplift say the uncertainty should end immediately and Ashfield MP Lee Anderson previously said ex-miners like himself should not be a “cash cow” for the Treasury. The Government has repeatedly hinted that announcements on the pensions would be made in its autumn Budget.

The date of the Government's Budget has now been confirmed as November 26.
