CONCERNS ABOUT NOTTINGHAM-BASED YÜ ENERGY

- By JOSHUA HARTLEY

CUSTOMERS of a Nottingham energy company have said it has left them fearing huge unexpected bills and sudden power cuts.

Yü Energy, based in Mellors Way, Strelley, says it is a “trustworthy” supplier of more than 40,000 UK businesses and boasts a “great” Trustpilot rating.

However, some customers have a different story one of worrying electricity cutoffs, sudden bills of thousands of pounds, and the unauthorised fitting of prepayment meters.

Funeral director Mark Armstrong, from Louth, Lincolnshire, has been battling with the energy firm for the past two years and has warned he will protest outside its headquarters in his hearse if his nightmare doesn’t end soon.

In June last year he found his funeral home in darkness, as Yü had cut off the power to his premises - and to the all-important mortuary fridges inside. “I came in to work one morning and they'd remotely switched off the electricity with no warning, so my fridges had been off for hours,” the 56-year-old said.

“They asked for this astronomical amount of money to get it back on, so I paid, but overnight they had put me on pay-as-you-go without telling me, which they then denied fitting.

“Every morning I am worried my electricity will be off again, you just don't know what they are going to do.”

As well as what Mr Armstrong said was an out-of-nowhere power cut off, he said Yü's billing “chaos” had left him baffled by the company's conduct.
