Couple only offered £90 bill discount after sewage flood ruins garden

A COUPLE are reeling after receiving a discount of just £90 on their water bill despite a flood of sewage ruining their garden and causing hundreds of pounds’ damage.

The sewage spilled into Jack and Jane Smith's garden in Holkham Avenue, Chilwell, in January.

It was the second time in six months it had happened. The couple lost their pond of fish to a similar disaster last year.

This time, logs and artificial grass were swamped by human waste and tissues.

Severn Trent said both floods were caused by sanitary products blocking the area's shared sewer. The company carried out remedial work to help prevent future blockages.
