Ashfield council proposes to put up tax amid 'significant funding gap'

ASHFIELD District Council is proposing to put its tax up by just under the maximum amount as it faces a "significant funding gap" in future years.

The council is set to approve a 2.93% rise at a meeting next week, meaning all households will pay more from April.

It comes after the Ashfield Independents-run council increased council tax by 2.94% last year, just shy of the maximum allowed amount of 3%.

The council says it has balanced its budget in the current financial year, as well as the following financial year which begins from April.
