Mum tells of moment son, 2, dug up bones on beach

|October 23, 2025
A MUM has told of the moment her two-year-old son dug up human bones while playing on Saunton Sands.
The discovery, on October 11, sparked a major police investigation, with a cordon in place on the beach as officers explored the area before sending the bones for forensic testing.
Gabrielle Prentice, from Braunton, said her son Lake, aged two, was happily digging in the sand when he came across something unusual.
She said: “We were on the beach having an afternoon eating chips and letting my two-year-old Lake have a dig around. He made us move three times before he found the place he wanted to dig.
“Almost immediately he found a bone. We first thought it looked like driftwood, but on further inspection we decided it may be an animal bone, and then he quickly brought over three more.
