Life-saving drive to prevent heartbreak

A NORTH Devon college is helping to stop tragedy in its tracks by offering free cardiac screenings that could save lives before symptoms even begin.

Bideford College has again partnered with Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) to host essential heart checks for young people across the region.

The college, part of the Athena Learning Trust, continues to serve as the local hub for the service, which is available to 14-35 year olds. The screenings are made possible entirely through community fundraising in memory of 19-year-old Martyn Luckett from Hartland, who died from sudden cardiac arrest in 2005.
