As Vodafone Idea gets a lifeline, Airtel eyes similar relief on AGR

The year FY17 assumes significance as the Supreme Court had in 2020 locked Vodafone Idea's and other companies' AGR dues till 2016-17 based on DoT's (department of telecommunications) calculations, adding that no self-assessment or reassessment of the dues would be permitted.
In April, Airtel had urged the DoT to convert its AGR dues of about ₹40,000 crore into equity, which would give the government a 3-4% stake in India's second-largest telecom operator.
