I'm a retired senior. I earn from interest and capital gains. What's my tax liability under the new regime, and which return form should I use?

Assuming your long-term (₹2.2 lakh) and short-term (₹1.5 lakh) capital gains are from listed shares, equity-oriented funds, REITs or InvITs—subject to STT—they fall under sections 112A and 111A, respectively.
LTCG up to ₹1.25 lakh is tax-free, so your taxable income is ₹4.45 lakh (including ₹95,000 taxable LTCG).
