US revokes visas of Indian biz executives over fentanyl precursor trafficking

The United States on Thursday announced the revocation and denial of visas for several Indian business executives and corporate leaders accused of involvement in trafficking chemical precursors used to manufacture fentanyl, a synthetic opioid linked to thousands of overdose deaths in America.

The US embassy in New Delhi confirmed the action but withheld the names of those affected. There has been no immediate response from the Indian government on the matter.

Jorgan Andrews, US Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi, said the step reflected Washington's determination to act against individuals and organisations tied to the illegal drug trade.

"Individuals and organisations involved in the illegal production and trafficking of drugs to the United States, along with their families, will face consequences that may include being denied access to the United States," Andrews stated.
