The Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) have firmly rejected calls to cancel the controversial NEET-UG 2024 examination, telling the Supreme Court that such a move would be "counterproductive" and "seriously jeopardise" the futures of lakhs of honest candidates. This stance comes amid growing demands for the exam's cancellation due to alleged malpractices.
In separate affidavits filed with the Supreme Court, both the Union Education Ministry and the NTA argued against scrapping the exam, which was held on May 5 for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses. The exam, taken by over 23 lakh candidates at 4,750 centres across 571 cities, has been marred by allegations of question paper leaks and impersonation.
