The Election Commission (EC) has directed a Special Revision of Assam’ electoral rolls, setting the stage for a fresh verification exercise ahead of the state elections next year.
The poll panel has instructed the chief electoral officer that January 1, 2026, will serve as the qualifying date for the revision. The final voter list is scheduled for publication on February 10, 2026.
Officials described the exercise as positioned between the annual special summary revision and the more exhaustive Special Intensive Revision. A senior functionary said, “It is in a way an upgrade of special summary revision... Instead of enumeration forms, booth-level officers will verify electors on a pre-filled register” The process is designed to streamline field checks and reduce data entry errors.
