The Supreme Court's Collegium led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna recommended Justice Joymalya Bagchi of the Calcutta High Court for elevation to the Supreme Court on Thursday.
The five-member Collegium noted that no Calcutta High Court judge rose to become the Chief Justice of India since the retirement of Justice Altamas Kabir on July 18, 2013.
