Racing with AI: Adopt and adapt
Manila Bulletin
|December 3, 2025
The World Bank Group’s latest Digital Progress and Trends Report 2025: “Coworker, Coach, or Competitor? How AI is Transforming the Future of Digital Delivered Services,” appears to have painted a paradox for the Philippines.
-
It highlighted that the country’s rapid adoption of generative AI positions the Philippines as both a regional frontrunner and a nation standing on fragile ground. Our vibrant services sector—once the country’s growth engine—is also the most vulnerable to Al-driven displacement.
While the report focused on the services sector, the issue on AI affects all sectors. Now, the question is no longer whether AI will reshape Filipino workers, but how quickly, and who will be left behind. If we are to adapt, the government, businesses, and Filipino workers must act together—not to resist the technology, but to master it, now.
