PGT: Pedro, Hasty, and Leaf earn judges’ nod

A trio going by the name of Pedro Hasty Leaf (PHL for short) earned the “yes” of the judges for their unique rendition of the rap anthem “Mga Kababayan Ko” during the Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT) episode (Season 7, Week 2) on April 6.

As lead singer Pedro sang the song’s first few lines, Leaf appeared behind the audience to continue singing in beatbox style, followed by rapper Hasty. It was a pleasant surprise for the judges, who thought they were dealing only with one artist.

Gen Z judge Donny Pangilinan described the performance at the end of the trio’s number as “Ang angas!” (badass). “Kathryn Bernardo replied, “Nag-enjoy kami. Good call.”

Meanwhile, Freddie “FMG” Garcia commented: “The rapping is good. It’s very Filipino.” Comedian Eugene Domingo agreed: “I like the choice of the song. Pinoy na Pinoy.”

“King of the bones,” Eugene added as she and Pedro engaged in friendly banter about her “being more beautiful than the evening.” Their exchange sent some members of the audience giggling.
