Infra, social dev't, and other legacy projects in Manila eyed

- By ARGYLL CYRUS GEDUCOS and DIANN CALUCIN

President Marcos and Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso, bitter rivals in the 2022 presidential elections, have decided to bury their political differences to become partners for progress.

On Friday, Oct. 17, President Marcos met with Mayor Isko in Malacañang where they agreed to strengthen national and local cooperation on major infrastructure and social development projects in the country's capital.

The 50-minute meeting was also attended by former Press secretary Cesar B. Chavez, who currently serves as Mayor Domagoso's chief of staff.

In a statement, the Presidential Communications Office said the discussion focused on the alignment of the national government's legacy projects with Manila's 10-year comprehensive development plan, including ongoing works on housing, bridges, transportation, and water systems.

President Marcos cited the importance of close coordination with the city government to ensure the timely completion of projects, including the North and South Harbor Bridge, the retrofitting of the Lambingan Bridge, and the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR).

Championing Open Governance on the global stage

Assalamu alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. As chairperson of the Philippine Open Government Partnership (PH-OGP), I had the privilege of leading the Philippine delegation to the 2025 OGP Global Summit held in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, from Oct. 6 to 10. With one of the most high-level representations at the event, our presence demonstrated that the Philippines stands firmly with the global OGP community in advancing open governance at all levels of society — refining systems for better public service delivery and strengthening public trust through transparency and collaboration.
