Mayor Vico, DO'Tr oversee start of Metro Manila Subway construction

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, together with Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Sec. Giovanni Lopez, inspected the Ortigas Station site on Wednesday, Sept. 3, marking the start of the construction of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) which had been delayed for almost two years.

During the inspection, construction workers began demolition work, including the removal of establishments such as restaurants on the site.

In a media interview, Lopez said the construction had been delayed for over two years due to several legal issues.

“October pa ata ng 2022 nabigyan ng Notice to Proceed (NTP), kaso nung nagka-issue sa mga, of course, sa may-ari (The project was granted an NTP as early as October 2022, but issues with the owners caused delays), then we have to expropriate it,” he explained.

Lopez emphasized the importance of Ortigas Station as the second-largest station in the Metro Manila Subway.
