Faith is handed over from generation to generation.

The family is the first depository of the faith, and every Christian child grows into the community of faith primarily through the parents, family members, as well as godparents. We remember the words of Paul to Timothy, “I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and that I am confident lives also in you” (2 Tm 1:5).

To highlight the role of grandparents in the propagation of the faith, Pope Francis established World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly as a reminder of the important role they play as a link between generations.

REFLECTIONS TODAY

This is celebrated every year on the fourth Sunday of July close to the liturgical celebration of Sts. Joachim and Anne, the parents of Mary, and therefore Jesus’ grandparents.
