Filing of graft raps in DepEd laptop mess a 'vindication' for teachers

A vindication for public school teachers.
That was how ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio described the Office of the Ombudsman's decision to file graft and falsification charges against former Department of Education (DepEd) secretary Leonor Briones and 13 other officials over the P2.4-billion overpriced laptop procurement scandal.
"This is a vindication of our persistent calls for accountability in the misuse of public funds intended for our teachers," Tinio said in a statement Sunday, July 13.
"The Ombudsman's findings confirm what we have been saying all along - that this deal was not only grossly overpriced but also deprived thousands of teachers of the quality equipment they needed during the pandemic," added the Makabayan solon.
