Mobile hairdresser foiled pensioner's robbery plot

A TERMINALLY-ILL pensioner who tied up a 95-year-old woman in her own home in a bizarre bid to pay for his own funeral has been told he will most likely die in prison.

Edwin Morrison, 81, was yesterday jailed for seven years for the terrifying attempted robbery of Mary Morgan in Salford.

Manchester Crown Court had previously heard how Morrison tricked his way into Mrs Morgan's home in Little Hulton, by claiming that he had information about bin collections.

He then strangled the pensioner, who was home alone, and bound her hands with cable ties as he shouted at her to 'shut up' while demanding 'give me your money,' Manchester Crown Court heard.

The robbery was only 'foiled by the fortuitous arrival' of Mrs Morgan's hairdresser.

The court previously heard how prior to the attack, Morrison, who was given two years to live in July 2024 after being diagnosed with terminal renal cancer, had vowed to take his own life, but that he was concerned about being a 'burden' to his family and leaving them with the costs of his funeral.

Morrison, who used to work delivering medicines on behalf of a pharmacy, set up a GoFundMe page, in which he said he was raising money to pay for funeral costs because he had cancer.
