CHALLENGING SEASON TO FINISH RED DEVILS’ STAY IN SUPER LEAGUE

- By TOM BRAMWELL

SALFORD’S season comes to an end this evening and, in all likelihood, so does the club's stay in Super League.

It was confirmed earlier this week that the Red Devils have not submitted an application to be considered as one of the 13th or 14th teams in next year’s expanded competition and it is expected that a combination of the off-field financial issues and bottom-of-the-table finish will see them drop out of the 12 topflight clubs determined by IMG gradings.

The future remains uncertain for the club as a whole - the winding up petition from HMRC will be back before the courts next month and there is still no sign of the long-awaited bridging loan promised by the ownership - but also for Paul Rowley, who is likely to be coaching the team for the last time tonight.
