City station is back on track after £8m refit

Piccadilly station has reopened.

MANCHESTER Piccadilly train station reopened yesterday morning following a nine-day closure for a huge £8million project.

The station was almost fully shut over the February half-term, with platforms 1 to 12 closed as the ‘once-in-a-generation’ track and signalling upgrades were carried out.

No services were running from Piccadilly to the south or east while the work took place.

Network Rail has invested around £8m to replace ageing infrastructure on the southern approach to the station - much of which dates back to the 1980s.
