4.99pc council tax rise expected

COUNCIL tax in Rochdale is expected to go up by 4.99 per cent in April.

The local authority is due to vote on the budget at the end of next month, an annual requirement for every council.

Tax would need to be raised by 4.99pc to bring forward a balanced budget for 2026/27, according to finance papers.

Currently the council is over budget by £656,000, meaning they need to find further savings or dip into their financial reserves to balance the budget.
