Warning after fires pose a 'devastating threat'

POLICE have warned of potentially 'devastating' danger to wildlife after yobs started fires near an under threat beauty spot.

Officers announced on Saturday that they had received reports of arson at Danes Moss, in Macclesfield.

They have appealed for witnesses and say that they are working with the fire service, schools and Cheshire Police's rural crime team to 'protect the area.

Danes Moss is home to a variety of species including the endangered willow tit and there are controversial plans to build 590 homes, a school, link road and businesses on part of the site.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “We need your help, we have had reports of youths setting fires near to Danes Moss.

“If you see anything suspicious in the area or know anything about this incident please contact us.
