Nonagenarian Joan in Wild Cup triumph

This year there were 29 ladies in the competition and Joan Crouch probably set a record for the competition by being the oldest-ever lady to win the coveted trophy.

Prestbury Lady Captain Caroline Harrison-Crofts said: “Joan, who was 90 in February plays golf at least once a week in the 9-hole competition and she has a Handicap Index of 38.8.

“She normally walks the 9-hole competitions but decided that 13 holes at Prestbury is ‘a bit far’ and decided to use a buggy for the first time and it cer tainly paid off as she posted an impressive 33 points to hold off stiff competition from the 28 younger ladies in the competition and we were all delighted to see her presented with the Wild Trophy!”

The President's Junior Trophy at Avro was won by Euan Courtney 41 from Matthew Goss 25.

Alan Barker led in the Wednesday Stableford at Avro wit 41 well clear of Peter Hale and Chris Rob inson, both 35.

A 6x6x6 Team Stable ford at Avro had the hot trio of P Roles, R Whalley and C Fisher on top with 78, three more than C Robinson, J Isherwood and J Wood and P Johnson I Arthur and J Wetherell.

The Avro Ladies Sum mer Cup League's latest 9-hole Stableford was won by Amanda Belshaw 19 from Gabby Hampshire 18 and Wendy Roberts 14.

A Stableford at Tyther ington was won by Mat thew Dougherty 37 from Tony Mathers and Ben Goulding.
