Batsmen expose frailties in lowly rivals
Macclesfield Express
|July 16, 2025
MACC travelled to bottom club Grappenhall following last week's disappointment against Urmston.
Captain Jack Massey won the toss and elected to bat on a blisteringly hot afternoon.
Enter Andrew Poppa and James Longhorn who negotiated the first 10 overs from bowlers Arrow-smith and Guest at just above three runs an over, creating a solid base.
From the 14th over, the carnage began; Poppa reached his 50 with a big six over long-on and the frailties of Grappenhall's bowling were brutally exposed.
The loss of young quick, Ashish, to a hamstring injury may not have helped Grappenhall but Poppa was not for sentiment and punished anything loose with an ever-expansive range of shots.
Longhorn was steady as ever, playing his way, accumulating runs with the occasional flourish and the pair soon reached the 100 run opening partnership.
