AMMANFORD got their season off to a disappointing start with a 114-run home defeat to South Wales Premier League 1 newcomers Ynystawe.

Batting first, Ynystawe got off to a wonderful start thanks to some wayward early bowling, with an opening partnership of 146 before Tom Blake was dismissed for 79.

Fellow opener Hamdan Tahir (43) followed 25 runs later.

Their middle order continued the good work, Matthew Blake (41) and skipper Nathan Lee (49) ensuring that runs kept coming at a consistent pace.

Ynystawe closed on 283-6 after 50 overs.

For Ammanford, Dan Roberts was pick of the bowlers with 3-52, while 17-year-old Jac Kenchington (1-28) looked a promising left-arm spinner.
