Victim tells of fears for her child after brutal assault in their home

- By ADAM EVERETT

A DRUNKEN thug flew into a rage and choked his ex-girlfriend until she passed out after he was asked to clean up the mess he had made.

Liam Greenwood had only recently been released from a lengthy spell in prison at the time he carried out the brutal assault in front of his own daughter.

It came after he rapidly “went from calm to raging” when asked to pick up food he had dropped after attending her home late at night. He went on to viciously kick his defenceless victim as she lay unconscious on the floor, leaving the lives of her and her child “turned upside down”.

Liverpool Crown Court heard this week that Greenwood, of no fixed address, had been in a relationship with Wendy Littler in the past, with the two having a five-year-old daughter together. The 34-year-old attended her address in New Ferry, Wirral, shortly after midnight on November 2 last year and was initially said to have “appeared calm”.

But Jonathan Keane, prosecuting, described how he “went from calm to raging” after being asked to clean up food he had dropped around the property. Greenwood then lunged at his victim, grabbed her by the throat with one hand, and squeezed.
