Tranmere suffer first defeat of season

TRANMERE Rovers suffered their first defeat of the season in a narrow 2-1 loss to Notts County, despite Omari Patrick recording his fourth goal of the season.

Substitute Kellan Gordon won the game for County in the 62nd minute when Luke McGee's impressive save to deny Matthew Dennis was deflected across to the goal scorer, who took advantage of the goalkeeper remaining on the floor and guided the ball goalwards past two Rovers defenders on the line.

At the end of a scrappy first half, Rovers took the lead through top goal scorer Patrick as he met Charlie Whitaker's pinpoint pass across the box with a composed finish into the bottom left corner, leaving County goalkeeper Kelle Roos stranded.

Dennis equalised for the visitors just four minutes after half time, as he threw himself in the direction of Tom Iorpenda’s driven cross and directed the ball into the roof of the net for his fifth goal in his previous four matches.
