Tranmere triumph in final game of season

- By LUKE FEATHER at Rodney Parade

TRANMERE Rovers finished the 2024-25 season in style yesterday, as they produced a 4-1 demolition of Newport County at Rodney Parade.

Safe in the knowledge that League Two football had already been secured for next season, Tranmere’s interim manager Andy Crosby made three changes to the starting side that began the match against Crewe ‘Alexandra last week, recalling Jake Garrett, Cameron Norman and Sam Taylor in place of Connor Wood, Harvey Saunders and the suspended Regan Hendry.

Perhaps surprisingly, youngster Taylor was tasked with supplying the width for Rovers from a left wing back role, whereas Omari Patrick, who has taken up the wide role on numerous occasions this season, lined up alongside Kristian Dennis in attack.

Beginning the afternoon in the ascendency, Newport were the first side to test the opposing goalkeeper, as Anthony Glennon’s long range effort forced Luke McGee into a smart save low to his right.

County moved the ball with pace throughout the opening exchanges and looked to direct much of their play through their mountainous striker Kyle Hudlin, whose knockdowns allowed the likes of Bobby Kamwa to drive towards the Rovers back line.
