PATRICK FIRES BUT ROVERS HIT BY LATE LEVELLER

- By LOUIS PARR at Prenton Park

TRANMERE were denied all three points yesterday, as Gillingham struck in injury time to snatch a 1-1 draw at Prenton Park.

Omari Patrick netted his second goal in two games to give the hosts the lead, before Joe Gbode scrambled the ball home for the visitors with minutes remaining.

The result sees Andy Crosby's side continue their unbeaten start to the season, with two draws and a win.

A scrappy first half saw neither team fashion a gilt-edged chance of their own, however it was Rovers who started the brighter.

Patrick Brough was the first to go closest, as the defender latched on to the end of Richie Smallwood’s deep cross but failed to direct his effort goalwards.

Moments later and another wide delivery was causing the visitors concern, as Cameron Norman’s pinpoint ball found the head of Josh Davison, who headed over from the centre of the box.

Gillingham settled quickly though and had a half-chance themselves as Robbie McKenzie glanced wide of Luke McGee's post from 12 yards.
