MAN SET WASTE ON FIRE NEAR MUSEUM

He walked away as flames took hold

A MAN was caught on CCTV setting rubbish on fire with a cigarette lighter outside an iconic Mathew Street venue.

Daniel Byrne, of no fixed abode, made a concerted effort to cause the blaze outside the Liverpool Beatles Museum, which is in the street where the original Cavern Club once stood.

The Beatles played at the club in the early 1960s and the area remains a major attraction for tourists. Byrne was caught on CCTV around 4am on July 14 carrying a sleeping bag. He approached a bin full of rubbish at the side of the museum and made several attempts to set fire to it with a lighter.
