Every girl should have a perfect prom night

Mum on a mission to ease parents' financial worries over school events

PREPARING for a school prom is expensive. Suits, dresses, shoes, hair, makeup, accessories - it adds up to a lot for one day, and the pressure on struggling parents to give their sons and daughters the send-off they deserve is massive.

Now, Katie Fife, a 30-year-old mum from West Derby, has organised an event to relieve that pressure and give everyone the chance to look and feel special on their prom night.

Called Pass on the Sparkle, the idea came about after a chance encounter. Katie, who works at Tribal Society in the Metquarter, says someone reached out asking if she had a prom dress for a girl who couldn't afford one.

Although Katie didn't have a prom dress to give, what she did have was a large social media following, and she posted on Facebook asking if anyone could donate a dress - prompting an overwhelming response.
