Anti-social behaviour to blame for two-year escalator shutdown at station

ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour and misuse led to escalators at one of Liverpool's main rail hubs being out of action for almost two years.

In February, following a lengthy wait, the escalators outside Moorfields station were switched back on again.

What was initially supposed to be a month’s work to repair faulty parts at the Merseyrail station dragged on after being beset by delays. The maintenance of the escalators, leading to the entrance of the station, has been the responsibility of Liverpool Council since 1971.
