THOUSANDS ran through Liverpool city centre and the Wallasey Tunnel yesterday in the 20th Mersey Tunnel 10k race.

The event sold out this year, marking a record number of entries since it was reintroduced in 2006.

The route began in Liverpool city centre, leading runners through the Kingsway Tunnel before finishing in New Brighton.

The BTR Liverpool event offers a rare opportunity to travel through the Kingsway Tunnel on foot - the only time of year this is possible.
