Moyes has to keep faith going FORWARD

ANFIELD EXPOSED STRIKING ISSUES - BUT THERE IS HOPE OF IMPROVEMENT

There were so many fine margins that hampered the Blues - even if the loss was mainly down to the poor start the players made to a match in which there is no excuse for starting slowly.

Vitalii Mykolenko's defensive attributes shine against the likes of Mo Salah and Bukayo Saka but his caution in attack impedes the forward line. He has improved under Moyes, crossing the halfway line for assists at Newcastle United and Brentford and a goal at Fulham last year.

It does not come naturally to him, though, and Moyes turned in dismay in the second half as Grealish stood up Conor Bradley and waited to send the overlapping full back behind the defence only for no such run to materialise.

On the other side, too, Jake O'Brien has coped admirably across nine months out of position at right-back and his work there has been central to good results against good teams.
