NEWLYWEDS' SCOOTER PARADE THROUGH CITY

- JESS MOLYNEUX

It's WHEEL love for happy couple

AN ELDERLY couple who "fell in love in Liverpool" tied the knot at St George's Hall yesterday before driving through the city centre on decorated mobility scooters.

Micky 'Turks' Taylor, 77, and Iris Reddon, 80, who live in East Sussex, first met three years ago on a dating website, having both lost their partners years earlier.

For their first date, they went out for tea and cake, but it was a week-end trip to Liverpool that saw their relationship flourish and they've been visiting ever since. Micky, who has one son, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, is a joiner by trade, as well as a non-league football pundit and author.

Iris, a former ballerina and dance teacher, has two children and three grandchildren, and said "Liverpool has always been a special place" for the pair. Ahead of their wedding yesterday, the couple met the ECHO at The Municipal Hotel on Dale Street to share their story and inspire others that "you're never to old" to find love.

imageMicky said he has always "had love and respect for Liverpool" and has unique ties to the city. In 1997, when he was manager of Croydon Athletic, then LFC manager Roy Evans asked Micky if his team could train there before their game at Selhurst Park against Wimbledon.

In 2008, Micky also played his last game at the age of 60, playing with former Everton goalkeeper Neville Southall. After visiting Liverpool a few times through the years, he wanted Iris to see how great the city is for herself.
