Daniel Barr receives the award alongside his mum Honora

THE city's top judge told a heroic LFC fan who jumped into the back of Paul Doyle's car and pulled the brake that he had shown "extraordinary courage" while presenting him with an award for his bravery.

Daniel Barr's selfless actions brought the rampaging vehicle to a halt as it ploughed into more than 100 pedestrians on Water Street in Liverpool city centre during Liverpool FC's Premier League title parade in May last year.

The 41-year-old labourer and former armed serviceman, from Birkenhead, was yesterday handed the High Sheriff's Award at Liverpool Crown Court in recognition of his remarkable act of bravery, which undoubtedly prevented further members of the crowd from being seriously injured and may have even saved lives.

A host of judges and court staff, as well as High Sheriff of Merseyside Billy Hui, assembled for the special ceremony in courtroom 41.

Giving him the "court's highest commendation", the Honorary Recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary KC told him: "The evidence before this court established that Mr Barr acted with extraordinary courage. Seeing the vehicle striking pedestrians, he opened the rear door and climbed into it while it was still moving.
