ALFIE ALLEN TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW SERIES, ATOMIC, WHICH HE DESCRIBES AS A ‘HELL OF A RIDE’. BY RACHAEL DAVIS
-
AT the heart of action-packed new series Atomic, star Alfie Allen says, is “an unlikely friendship”.
The Game of Thrones and SAS Rogue Heroes star, and brother to pop singer Lily Allen, plays Max, a drugs trafficker who gets swept up in a high-stakes mission when he's ambushed in the Libyan desert by a group of insurgent militants and is tasked with trafficking highly-enriched uranium across North Africa and the Middle East.
He’s joined by fellow Brit JJ, a militant played by Spooks star Shazad Latif, in a wild road trip that sees the pair go head-to-head with the CIA, MI6, an internationally-funded cartel - and their own pasts.
Ahead of Atomic coming to Sky Atlantic and NOW, 38-year-old Alfie talks about the intense drama, the hair-raising stunts, and the layered character story of the series.
What is Atomic about?
Atomic is about two characters, Max and JJ, who form an unlikely friendship. They are both living roles in their life that they are equally confused about. Then they are confronted with a choice, when they come into possession of some highly dangerous Uranium capable of making a nuclear bomb.
They're two kinds of complex antiheroes, going through this crazy three-day journey. With some very high stakes!
