£20m boost hope for marine site

A West Dunbartonshire village should be the new home for a centre of excellence for marine technology, the local council leader has said.

Funding of £20million is expected to be approved from the Glasgow City Region Investment Zone to help develop the Scottish Marine Technology Park in Old Kilpatrick.

Malin Group has already received £2m from West Dunbartonshire Council and a further £2m of Clyde Mission funding while investing £3.5 million of its own money at the former Carless Oil Refinery on the banks of the River Clyde.

The aim is to move the Scottish Marine Technology Park (SMTP) from the site in Renfrew to Old Kilpatrick to become a centre of excellence for marine technology, engineering and complex marine manufacturing while reinvigorating shipbuilding and renewable industries on the Clyde.
