Watchdog faces probe into its police inquiry

STAFF from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) are now under investigation themselves over alleged comments to Leicestershire officers regarding killer Valdo Calocane.

Calocane stabbed three people to death in Nottingham and had, weeks earlier, allegedly attacked coworkers in Kegworth.

Leicestershire police investigated that incident but did not arrest Calocane, leading to officers being investigated by the IOPC.

The IOPC staff involved in that investigation are now being investigated over allegations they told the officers the inquiry was "politically motivated".

The IOPC staff are said to have told the Leicestershire officers who did not arrest Calocane that their disciplinary case was "being driven by the families of the victims', according to The Times.
