FAMILY OF MIRACLE MAN TELL OF CALL MADE TO DAD AFTER HORROR
THE sole survivor of the Air India plane crash said he thought he was dead after the plane smashed into the ground - and that he still cannot understand how he got out of it alive.
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, of Leicester, told DD News “I still can’t believe how I survived” as he spoke from his hospital bed yesterday.
The 40-year-old, who was travelling with his brother, Ajay, 35, told the broadcaster the plane felt like it was “stuck in the air” shortly after take-off, before lights began flickering and the aircraft “slammed into a building and exploded”.
His younger brother, speaking to Sky News yesterday, told how Vishwash had called his dad in the aftermath of the crash, and said: “The plane's crashed. I don’t know where my brother is. I don’t see any other passengers. I don’t know how I'm alive, how I exited the plane.”
Video footage on social media and Indian news sites appears to show him walking away from the site shortly after the crash.
Dr Dhaval Gameti, who treated Vishwash, said: “He was disoriented, with multiple injuries all over his body. But he seems to be out of danger.”
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, bound for Gatwick, struck a medical college in Ahmedabad as it crashed in a fireball shortly after take-off on Thursday, killing all the other 241 people on board.
There were 230 passengers and 12 crew on board the 12-year-old Boeing 787-8.
The passengers comprised 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian.
