Leader rebuffs asylum seeker hotel rumours

Leicester Mercury

October 10, 2025

ONLINE claims that hotels in a Hinckley and Bosworth are housing asylum seekers have been dismissed by the leader of the borough council.

- By DYLAN HAYWARD

Councillor Stuart Bray condemned the rumours as “misinformation” creating “unnecessary fear and division”.

Claims have been spread on social media suggesting hotels in Hinckley are housing asylum seekers and that the Liberal Democrat-controlled council has targets for accommodating them.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council leader Councillor Bray said both claims are false and that responsibility for accommodating asylum seekers rests with government-appointed contractor Serco, not the council.

Coun Bray said in a statement this week: “I'm proud to live in a borough where diversity is embraced and inclusion is part of everyday life.
