Smith is the hero as Wolstanton secure Challenge Cup with narrow victory

FOOTBALL: Wolstanton lifted the Staffs County Senior League Challenge Cup with a 1-0 victory over Redgate Clayton at Vale Park.

Wolstanton had much the better of the first half, but Redgate stormed back into contention.

However, the only goal of the game came from forward Richard Smith, who finished after a smart move.

FC Hanley secured the Macron Trophy when they edged out Stafford Town 3-2 at Leek Town.

Neil Beasley's Stafford Town started well and after only five minutes took the lead when a good move down the left resulted in a fine shot which came back off the upright and was turned home by Lewis Satchwell.

Stafford continued to move the ball around the park well and had the best of the opening exchanges but FC Hanley started to stamp their identity on the game and equalised in the 20th minute when from a move down the left the ball found its way into the area.
