Letter of the day
-
Roy Elks in your May 21 edition writes from his experience as an air pilot. I write as a former chairman for a decade of the airport company.
Whilst I respect his enthusiasm for mass passenger transport, he is sadly mistaken in any belief that Blackpool Airport could ever again be a major player in the tourism market.
In my time the council were willing for my board to be given 'the best shot' to test the airport's long-term viability - not least as a means of attracting continental holiday visitors to the town.
We had a stroke of luck when we were able to build a large terminal building from the capital we raised from the sale of land for the Morrisons supermarket.
