Social media - where bad English lives and breathes

Social media — it’s where good grammar goes to die. There are so many fine examples of terrible English out there, it’s difficult to know where to start; however, one this morning did catch my eye.

A post on Facebook read: “Is thier any festive jobs going in town?”

Presumably the poster wasn’t interested in a sign writing position or teaching English as a second language.

Every day there are any number of incredible examples of appalling spelling and grammar on offer.

A quick flick through this morning describes traffic on the motorway as “hurrendous” - a combination of cheering because it’s so bad, perhaps?

Elsewhere, a horse owner appeals for people to post pictures of “there Connie’s that are going gray”, while a motorist speaks of giving “a cyclists a wide birth”.
